LEBANON —
Two
people who allegedly stole $7,500 worth of LaCoste shirts from the
outlet mall made the mistake of returning to the scene of the crime.
Carlos Dorca, 61, of Queens, N.Y., and Carriion Navarette, 42, of Hallandale Beach, Fla., allegedly used “boost bags” to steal 57 shirts Aug. 9 from the LaCoste store at Cincinnati Premium Outlets in Monroe, according to Warren County Prosecutor David Fornshell.
A Warren County grand jury indicted Dorca on grand theft, assault, harassment with bodily substance and possessing criminal tools charges. Navarrette was indicted for grand theft and possessing criminal tools.
A “boost bag” it outfitted with a special tape that obstructs store sensors, according to Fornshell. He said employees noticed they had been “cleaned out” of a new style of shirt Aug. 10 and called police. Dorca and Navarette were caught on store video, Fornshell said.
About a half hour after an officer came to the store to take a report, the employees saw the alleged shoplifters back in the store. When the Monroe police officer who took the initial report returned, a struggle ensued.
“He (Carlos) ends up assaulting the officer,” Fornshell said. “Once he goes at the officer he ends up, as part of the scuffle, with a bloody mouth. He continues to be uncooperative and proceeds to spit blood at the officer.”
He said when police searched their vehicle they found more boost bags, lock-pick sets and ledger bags Fornshell said appear to be evidence the pair have stolen from stores around the country.
If found guilty, Dorca faces 5 years behind bars and Navarrette faces 2 1/2 years, according to Fornshell.
