Tanger Outlets is set to bring at least 200 jobs to the Phoenix-Glendale area with an expansion of its West Valley mall.
“The customers in our stores have been responding really well since we opened in November 2012,” said Jessica Reeves, general manger of Tanger Outlets Westgate, the Phoenix/Glendale location.
“Demand said that we needed to expand.”
The outlet, located at 6800 N. 95th Ave. in Glendale, broke ground earlier this month for the additional 60,000-plus square feet, according to Reeves. Construction is scheduled to be completed by November.
Incoming retailers will be announced in the next 60 days, and there has been a lot of interest from many stores. Reeves said the additional space could hold 12 to 15 stores depending on the store sizes.
Dave McAlindin, a Glendale Economic Development official, said the Tanger expansion will bring increased city revenue from sales tax. He said Tanger brought in about $4 million to the city of
Glendale since its opening less than two years ago.
McAlindin said Tanger is not the only new development for the city of Glendale. The St. Joseph’s Hospital grand opening is set for May, and American Furniture Warehouse is under construction.
“We very much appreciate their confidence in Glendale and the fact they have chosen Glendale for their location,” McAlindin said. “We look forward to working with them for years to come.”
