There
was a mess for workers to clean up at the Nike Factory Outlet store in Northeast Portland this morning after someone claiming to
be an anarchist bashed four windows with a baseball bat overnight.
A witness says a man dressed in all black did it and then ran off, leaving the aluminum bat behind for evidence.
"The safety of our employees and customers is our priority and we are thankful that no one was hurt," says Nike's Erin Patterson.
Crews removed the broken glass and replaced it with plywood until new windows can be installed.
Anarchists are claiming responsibility. They say Nike claims to give back to the community, yet allows sweat shop factories. The group sent this email to our news partner KGW:

the Nike store alongside MLK in NE Portland
had about half of its front windows smashed out with a baseball bat late last
night.
One of the large panes had text that spoke of community building. As thePortland
Nike increasingly invests in their so-called community (i.e. people who will buy their products) through events such as Pride, yet if Nike were involved in such a thing as a community they wouldn't ignore key members such as the modern slaves working in their sweatshops.
This action taken in memory of three trans women of color who were murdered last month, Kelly Young, Ashley Sinclair, and Cemia "Ce Ce" Dove. Your beauty lives on through our rage!
Also taken in solidarity with those resisting the PNW grand jury, especially those who have been displaced by the state, and to show that action is still possible under the watchful eye of the FBI."
