Tangers Outlet Center in Foley Fights Back After Oil Spill

Sales Tax Holiday Helps Tanger Outlet Center in Foley

WKRG.com News

Because of its proximity to Baldwin County beaches the Tanger Outlet Center is unusually sensitive to changes in tourism. That means this year's sales tax holiday is coming at a good time for some shops hit hard by the oil spill. The registers are still ringing at places like Carter's Baby Store at a time when business has been less than stellar.

“All of our customers are tourists that's pretty much all we get,” says Supervisor Stacey Randall. The sales tax holiday is giving more people a reason to open their wallets but the overall foot traffic seems to be down due to the oil slick.

“It's impacted us in that we don't have the customers that we usually have the customers we have had are spending about the same we just haven't had the same numbers,” says VF Outlet Supervisor Philomene Callaway.
