A suburban Dallas jewelry store was held up Monday night by three men.
The robbery occurred at approximately 8pm, at a Zales jewelry store, located at the Allen Premium Outlets shopping center in the town of Allen.
It happened when three men were spotted as they were behaving suspiciously close to a few parked vehicles outside the shop. As Allen police were on the way to the scene, witnesses declared that the robbers entered the store and removed jewelry items from display cases. Thus, the case turned out to be an aggravated robbery case.
Reportedly, one of the robbers was armed with a gun.
More than 40 pieces of jewelry were stolen, sources say.
A civilian spotted one of the robbers fleeing in a Dodge van. The civilian was able to pursue the van and then direct police to its location.
When police pulled the van over in the 600 block of North Watters Road, they arrested a 16-year-old teen, who was spotted leaving the shop and the scene in the van. Three sets of black gloves, three masks, pry bars, and a chisel have been located in the van, which was reported stolen from Plano earlier that day. However, none of the seized merchandise was located.
The teen, of McKinney, was indicted for aggravated robbery, eluding police with a vehicle, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. When authorities performed a record check on the teen, it was learned that he had a lengthy rap sheet.
Police say that the teen is somehow not lending a hand in the investigation.
Police say that the employees of the shop are still trying to finish an inventory to figure out what items were seized as well as to figure out the value of their losses.
The other two robbers, who remain at large, have been described as being around the same age as the arrestee. They were either white or Hispanic men, and were dressed in dark-colored hooded sweatshirts.
Police say that it is not known at this moment as to exactly how many suspects and vehicles were involved in the holdup.
The shop has a video security system containing digital backup; however, for some reason, there was no video tape in the machine and the digital system was somehow not activated, according to police.
The investigation of this case remains ongoing.
Anyone with any further information about this case is encouraged to contact the Allen Police Department. It is highly recommended that tipsters should remain anonymous when reporting tips about actual criminal cases.
