The Tanger Outlet Center 1 in greater Bluffton recently was honored with a Green Building Award by the Carolina Recycling Association.
The award honors an organization that has engaged in a significant environmentally friendly building project.
The rebuilt center was designed to meet national Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards. It was more densely developed than its predecessor, used recycled and regional materials, and will reduce "heat island effect." The new center also will incur less stormwater runoff and less energy and water use than its predecessor, according to a news release.
