Top 5 ways to use LinkedIn

LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional network with over 100 million members and growing rapidly. LinkedIn connects you to your trusted contacts and helps you exchange knowledge, ideas, and opportunities with a broader network of professionals.

1. ESTABLISH YOUR PERSONAL BRAND

LinkedIn gives you the keys to controlling your online identity. Have you Googled yourself lately? You never know what may come up. LinkedIn profiles rise to the top of search results, letting you control the first impression people get when searching for you online.

You can then build your profile to showcase your background and skills. Highlight where you have worked and what you have accomplished. It also enables people to connect and reconnect with you. I'm a big fan of having a strong LinkedIn profile. You can check mine out here:

2. STAY CONNECTED WITH COLLEAGUES AND FRIENDS

In today’s professional world, people change jobs and locations constantly. By connecting on LinkedIn, your address book will never go out of date. Your contacts update their profiles, keeping you current with their latest jobs, projects and contact info. You’ll stay in closer contact with great tools to communicate and collaborate.

3. FIND EXPERTS AND IDEAS BY JOINING A GROUP

Sometimes your immediate circle can’t resolve a unique business challenge. Groups let you locate and interact with experts in your field. Quickly discover the most popular discussions in your professional groups. You can have an active part in determining the top discussions by liking and commenting. Follow the most influential people in your groups by checking the Top Influencers board or clicking their profile image to see all their group activity.

Many of Factory Outlet Insiders readers are already LinkedIn members and follow my blog through the LinkedIn group "Factory Outlet". If you are not a member of the Factory Outlet group on Linked In and want to start networking today with other Factory Outlet professionals then follow this link:

4. EXPLORE CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Whether you’re looking for a new job or winning new clients,  LinkedIn connects you to jobs, sales leads and ideal business partners. With their powerful search engine, company research tools and a jobs board that shows who you know at listed companies, LinkedIn is the place to turn for new opportunities.

5. FOLLOW YOUR FAVORITE COMPANIES

Company Pages are a great way to research companies you’re interested in, follow them to stay updated, see what kind of people work there, and even review the products and services you use.

For example, I recently started following The Was Group.

The Was Group, LLC is a leading real estate consulting firm that specializes in Retailer Representation and Landlord Representation. They currently represent a number of premier retailers in the outlet industry, and are the exclusive leasing agents for over 10-outlet centers across the country (both existing and developmental).
