Deer Widows Weekend at Birch Run Premium Outlets

BIRCH RUN--A Birch Run Premium Outlet tradition is alive and well for shoppers this year.

The 16th annual Deer Widows Weekend brought shoppers from across the state and country, all trying to score a deal and save a buck while many of their partners were trying to score a buck on the hunt.

Fire arm deer hunting season opened Nov. 15.

Richmond resident Nicole Rhein said she has been coming to Deer Widow's Weekend for several years.

"We come every year, it's a tradition," she said. "It's a fun weekend with the girls, and we always find good deals. There are always good deals to be found."

Rhein said she isn't exactly on the hunt for Christmas shopping yet, she isn't ignoring her holiday shopping during the weekend. She has found some items and used coupons to further squeeze a deal out of her shopping excursion.

"Every gift I get someone else, I myself one for myself," she said. "I'm doing well for Christmas."

A 15-year veteran of Deer Widow's Weekend, Grand Rapids resident Carol Hekman said the time at Birch Run Premium Outlets is a great excuse to have fun while the boys go on the hunt.

"Always, this a great time, and an excellent excuse for a shopping spree," Hekman said.

Bay City resident Lucy Horak said was spending her time shopping and relaxing at the outlets.

"We're just enjoying the day," she said. "It's fun to be here while the guys go away for a few days, the girls get to get out and have a good time."
