Royal Quays Outlet Centre in North Shields shows strong growth

A North East outlet shopping centre has reported a surge in consumer spending in January compared to the same month in 2013.

Footfall was up at the Royal Quays Outlet Centre in North Shields, North Tyneside by 11%, while spending was up 16% across the board, marking positive signs for the retail sector and the North East economy.

The centre, which consists of 50 stores with national brands and regional operators, has enjoyed low void rates in the past 12 months and an increase in the number of enquiries for space, despite wider pressure on the retail sector and the well-documented issues on the UK’s high streets.

Centre manager at Royal Quays, Judith Ramshaw, said: “The figures mark a brilliant start to the year, and it is great to see that spending is not occurring in one specific area, it is across the board.

“We know that shoppers are staying on site for longer periods of time and we have a great tenant mix that is really helping to pull them in.

“In 2013, we welcomed a range of new names to the centre such as the Pet Outlet, surfing specialist-altrock and American workwear company- Dickies, who are sitting alongside well established names, such as Nike Factory Store, Next Clearance, M&S Outlet and Clarks shoes.

“This is a great boost for us. During the year we will continue to look for opportunities to welcome both well-known and independent retailers to the centre.

“We work hard at ensuring our tenants are fully supported whether this is through connecting them with their fellow neighbours on-site, offering flexible packages suited to individual requirements and a range of competitive flexible rent arrangements linked to store performance as well as marketing support.”
