A Williamsburg-area outlet mall scheduled to close after the holidays may be reborn as a shopping and office center.
The Virginia Gazette reported this week that plans call for the Williamsburg Outlet Mall in James City County to be transformed into a development anchored by a Harris Teeter grocery, a pharmacy and other stores and offices. Williamsburg Retail Investors, a group that plans to buy the 19-acre property, has submitted a plan for the project.
The enclosed mall, built in 1982, has been in a steady decline in recent years, overshadowed by the nearby Williamsburg Premium Outlets.
The new center will be called Lightfoot Marketplace, the Gazette reported.
