The Williamsburg Outlet Mall in James City County will close at year’s end, the Virginia Gazette reported on its website today.
General partner Mary Diggs was quoted by the newspaper as saying,
“There are just no retailers coming to the mall.” The
250,000-square-foot mall, which bills itself as “Virginia’s only
enclosed factory outlet center,” shows only 18 spaces occupied among 73
available for lease. Among the remaining stores are Famous Footwear,
Pendleton and Vitamin World.
The mall has been overshadowed by the nearby Williamsburg Pottery and Williamsburg Premium Outlets.
Diggs told the Gazette that she has no development plans for the
site. The paper reported that she and her partners bought the mall in
2003 for $5.2 million.
