Cincinnati Premium Outlets Celebrates Anniversary

Many deal-seekers made their way to the Cincinnati Premium Outlets in the past 12 months, so many that mall officials say it was a very good first year.

Located off Interstate 75 and Ohio 63 in Monroe, the shopping center opened one year ago on Aug. 6, 2009. There are no planned activities for the outlet mall’s birthday, but representatives of mall owner Simon Property Group said the merchants have plenty to celebrate.

“We are very pleased with the center and the reception we have had from shoppers, as well as area attractions, hotels and businesses,” said Robert Tackett, general manager of the outlet center.
While the mall has welcomed millions of shoppers since its opening, he said, it keeps its traffic numbers confidential.

City Councilman Bob Kelley said there is no doubt the mall has been a great addition to the city.

“The mall has brought greater rewards to the city than we ever thought they would. They’ve been an excellent community member, they participate in the city in a lot of different ways, they employ residents among others and they draw a pretty good crowd of people to the city up there,” Kelley said.

“I think as our interchange expands and grows, that mall will be a key part of that happening. I think it will be a key part of our success in the future,” he said.

“Customers appear to be pleased with the mix of stores we have, including Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th, which carries a wide range of designer labels. If the brand doesn’t have any outlet store with us, we have been able to direct shoppers to Saks as they often carry a label a shopper is interested in,” Tackett said.

The mall also is anticipating the arrival of new stores, including the Loft Outlet on Aug. 13 and Lacoste later this year.

“We have been very selective in which stores we bring to the center. We want the center to retain a high level of quality,” he said.

The shopping center has the potential to attract more sit-down restaurants to some adjacent outlet parcels on the mall property, Tackett said. The mall’s real estate team is working on the sites, but it remains unknown which eateries may link up with Cincinnati Premium Outlets.
