Phase 2 of the designer outlets Wolfsburg with 28 new stores has opened

Wolfsburg, December 2013

In early December Wolfsburg’s Lord Mayor Klaus Mohrs, joined by City Planner Monika Thomas, and the CEO of the designer outlets Wolfsburg, Hans Dobke, opened the second building phase of the designer outlets Wolfsburg. With building completed six months after laying the cornerstone, 28 new brand stores will be at home in the new elliptical building.

Hans Dobke, CEO of operating company Outlet Centres International (OCI):
"Following our very successful first years, we are pleased to be able to open the extension of our centre. Over the past years we have steadily increased our visitor numbers and revenue and brought very high quality brands, with shops like Polo Ralph Lauren or Escada, to Wolfsburg. Now brand diversity will obtain an even more visible boost with phase II.”

The long-kept secret - which brands are hidden behind the doors - can now be revealed: Seidensticker, Reebook, Camel Active, Möve and Bonita are present in the new retail complex, comprised of a third elliptical building and an extended orthogonal of glass and steel. Adidas, Fossil, Marc O ́Polo, Lindt, Bruno Banani and Garcia will expand from their previous locations and invite bargain hunters to enjoy even more spacious stores in the extension.

Strengthened by the high influx of customers, the Adidas and Fossil stores will celebrate a premiere with their outlet store concepts in Wolfsburg and present themselves with bigger spaces and an extended assortment of goods.

Beginning on December 10th, the designer outlets Wolfsburg will celebrate the new opening for 100 days. Until late March 2014, further store openings will occur at regular intervals, including the brand highlight Michael Kors. The opening period will be concluded with a celebratory grand opening in spring 2014, with over 70 shops offering visitors unique brand diversity.

500 tonnes of steel were used for the third retail ellipse and Euro Capital invested a total of around 25 million Euros in the expansion.

With the opening of the second building phase the designer outlets Wolfsburg, with more than 45 international brand stores since 2007, will be extended by over 6,000 m2 . The complex contains close to 900 parking spaces. The extension also brings 150 additional jobs in the retail, catering and service industries, with 450 employees in total.

Lord Mayor Klaus Mohrs is delighted: "The designer outlets Wolfsburg have developed into an independent tourist destination and have significantly increased the catchment area of customers and visitors. With this extension and the expansion to over 70 international top brands, the shopping city Wolfsburg will attract further customer segments and visitors. I am delighted that we will continue to tread this successful path together. The designer outlet is growing - and Wolfsburg too."
