Recount preserves Berkshire Township vote on Tanger outlet center land

Brian R. Ball Staff reporter-Business First Dec 3, 2013, 2:39pm EST

The last recount of the Berkshire Township vote on the rezoning for the outlet center did not change the outcome of the Nov. 5 vote, essentially clearing the way for Tanger Factory Outlet Centers (NYSE:SKT) and Simon Property Group (NYSE:SPG) to sign up tenants for the project.

Opponents of the measure asked the Delaware County Board of Elections to recount the 580-560 tally in the official vote count, hoping to find 11 votes to turn the tide. Alas, the count didn’t change.

“It’s no deviation from our original canvas,” Elections Services Manager Ross McDonald told me this afternoon.

The vote recount took place Nov. 25 during my extended Thanksgiving break.

We previously reported that Tanger and Simon could begin construction of the outlet mall in the summer.
