Wolfsburg celebrates 2013

2013 – successful year in review designer outlets Wolfsburg celebrate increased turnover and the start of phase II

The designer outlets Wolfsburg can look back on another successful business year, which stood for expansion and growth. The centre achieved a 9% increase in turnover compared to the preceding year and a new record of close to 1.8 million visitors in 2013.

In early December 2013, the beginning of the extension phase II was celebrated with new stores from Seidensticker, Reebok, Camel Active, Bonita and Möve, as well as the expansion of existing stores from Adidas, Marc O’Polo, Garcia, Bruno Banani and Fossil. The opening of the second construction phase created 150 additional jobs. “The start of expansion with phase II has been a great success. Into spring we will welcome further attractive brands like Michael Kors”, stated Hans Dobke, CEO of operating company Outlet Centres International (OCI).

At the year-end Wolfsburg’s City Marketing and Tourism Society (CMT) moreover crowned the Outlet Centre “Ambassador of the City of Wolfsburg” in the retail category. “This is a great honour for us,” Michael Ernst, Senior Marketing Manager and Deputy Centre Manager at the designer outlets Wolfsburg is thrilled to report. “This accolade from the CMT shows how well we work together with retail to use synergies for the city.”

With the designer outlets, the city of Wolfsburg was able to strengthen its position as an attractive national destination. Next to constant growth in the outlet’s brand portfolio, numerous events ensured customer growth from a significantly extended catchment area. Close to 45% of visitors come to Wolfsburg to shop from cities more than 50km away - such as Hannover, Hildesheim, Celle and metropolitan centres like Hamburg - ensuring steadily rising revenue and visitor numbers.

“2013 was a very good year for the designer outlets Wolfsburg” summarises Stephan Schäfer, Managing Director of the operating company OCI. “Meanwhile with over 17,500m2 space, we have also secured prestigious new openings for 2014 that our visitors can look forward to.”
