CLARKSBURG, Md. — Zoning approval has been granted for a new Premium Outlets Center to be built just off Interstate 270 in Clarksburg, the Simon Property Group announced earlier this week.
An approval by the Montgomery County Council in early February cleared the way for Clarksburg Premium Outlets at Cabin Branch to proceed, the parent company said Monday in a news release.

“We are very confident that Clarksburg Premium Outlets will be a positive addition to Clarksburg and Montgomery County,” John R. Klein, president of Simon’s Premium Outlets division, said in the release.

The new outlet center is expected to provide residents with retail options that “have wanted it so long,” as well as create more than 1,500 new full- and part-time jobs, according to Klein.
“We are extremely grateful for the support we have received from area residents and look forward to becoming an integral part of the community,” he said.

In an emailed response, Coleen Conklin, senior vice president of marketing for Premium Outlets, said: “We are excited to move forward with developing Clarksburg Premium Outlets. We feel confident that both Clarksburg and Hagerstown will be successful. The addition of this center provides more options for shoppers and our centers draw from a wide radius and are marketed broadly to area visitors, both nationally and internationally. Shoppers visiting the area will bring business to both centers and stimulate the economy of the larger area.”

The Clarksburg outlet center, which proposed to be built southwest of I-270’s exit 18 at Clarksburg Road, or Md. 121, is expected to open by late 2015.
