Much of Tanger set to reopen Wednesday morning

Several stores at Tanger Outlet Center in West Branch are scheduled to reopen Wednesday morning at 9 a.m., according to General Manager Vicki Seltz Barnes.

Barnes told the Herald Monday afternoon that the outlet center had received its certificate of occupancy for suites 112 through 132, which includes the 17 stores and Tanger offices between Ann Taylor and Easy Spirit.

The mall has been closed since Feb. 27, when the roof above the Polo Ralph Lauren and Hanes Brands stores collapsed.

While several stores will reopen, seven will remain closed in addition to the Polo and Hanes stores, which are being demolished. Remaining closed for the time being are Gymboree, Coach, Reebok, Christopher & Banks, Famous Footwear, G.H. Bass & Co., Izod and Van Heusen.

Seltz Barnes said there is no tentative reopen date for those stores at this time. Building inspectors still need to go through the stores, check the sprinkler system, and make sure the buildings are safe for occupancy.

“We’re starting on that process,” she said. “We just have to wait until the demolition is done to do that.
