Charlotte Premium Outlets nearing completion

Workers are readying the Charlotte Premium Outlets for the mall’s opening at the end of July in the Steele Creek area.

The 400,000-square-foot mall, set to open July 31, will be the first outlet mall inside city limits. Located at the intersection of Dixie River and Shopton roads, the mall was built on about 80 acres of mostly vacant, wooded land.

The mall is a joint venture of Simon Property Group, which owns SouthPark mall and Concord Mills, and Tanger Factory Outlet Centers, which owns outlets in Mebane and Blowing Rock.

With 100 retailers, the mall will be anchored by Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th. The mall is expected to employ 900 people and generate $140 million in annual sales, the companies have said.

Charlotte and Mecklenburg County agreed to give Simon and Tanger $5.1 million worth of property tax rebates over the next decade as an incentive for building the mall and making infrastructure improvements nearby.
