Factory Outlet suspect drove through an elementary school

Bend Oregon Police have arrested a Powell Butte man after a break in Wednesday night at the Factory Outlet Stores, followed by an early morning pursuit. It all started at 7:30 last night when officers responded to a break in at the Outlet Stores on south Highway 97. A white Chevy pickup was seen driving out of the area. An officer gave chase near the Wal-Mart parking lot, then later in the Sun Meadow subdivision. At one point, the man driving the pickup drove through the Jewell Elementary School baseball field while children where playing. He also collided with a backhoe at a construction site. A man then fled the damaged pickup in a wooded area east of Brosterhous Road. A little after midnight, police received a tip that Jason Russell Girod, 39, was at a Bend residence. He was arrested without incident and faces multiple charges.
