COMMERCE-Tanger Factory Outlet Centers, Inc.introduces a new potential fund-raising program for area schools, with a special emphasis on student volunteerism. The program, designed to instill in today’s youth the importance of civic duty and volunteerism, is open to groups or organizations affiliated with any public or private school within a seven county area of Tanger Outlets in Commerce, GA. There is no age or grade restriction and the volunteer effort must take place during the period of June 1 – September 15, 2011.
Applications must first be submitted in advance with a description of the proposed volunteer project. A panel of judges will then select the top 5 submittals and then award the grants. Upon successful completion of their volunteer projects, four of the applicants will each receive a $500 grant, while the top applicant will receive a $1,000 grant.
“We are very excited about this new initiative,” remarked Mark Valentine, General Manager of Tanger Outlets in Commerce. “It will serve as an extension of Tanger Outlets’ charitable focus on kids and education.”
Applications are available at Tanger’s Shopper Services desk, suite 201. They can also be requested via eMail at acomadm@tangeroutlet.com.
The volunteer efforts must be comprised primarily of student volunteers, although some adult involvement in the way of supervision is acceptable. In addition, the projects should be focused on the resource of student labor and effort. The object is not to have the groups spend a lot of money, although some expense on miscellaneous supplies and materials would be acceptable (i.e., a painting project of benches in a park would involve the purchase of paint and brushes).
The grant awards will be announced on June 1st and the top five groups will have until September 15th to complete their project.
