Adults teach kids to steal at Vacaville Premium Outlets

By Richard Bammer / The Reporter

Four people, two adults and two children, were arrested Thursday in Vacaville for theft and other felonies, for taking more than $2,300 worth of designer jeans from a Premium Outlets store on Wednesday -- after they returned to the business to steal again the next day, Vacaville police said.

Officer Debi Lopez said the four, all from San Francisco, worked together to take a dozen jeans, each pair worth more than $200, and fled from the True Religion store, at 328 Nut Tree Road.

Lopez said one of the adults, Diana Washington, 28, and a 12-year-old boy, on Wednesday took less than one minute to snatch the jeans, stuff them into a foil-lined bag to evade electronic theft detectors at the store's entrance, while the other adult, Dalon St. Matthews Haley, 29, and a 15-year-old boy, distracted store employees, who later called outlet security and police to report the 11 a.m. theft.

But Haley, Washington and the two juveniles, whose names were not released because of their ages, returned to the store at noon Thursday to, apparently, steal again, using the same method of operation, distraction and the foil-lined bag, Lopez said.

The store's assistant manager recognized Haley from the previous day and called outlet security and Vacaville police, she said. The four fled the store again, while the assistant manager followed them outside and waited for police officers to arrive. As officers arrived, Haley and the 15-year-old ran from the area, but officers placed them and Washington and the 12-year-old into custody for questioning, according to Lopez' report
Washington was arrested on suspicion of burglary and conspiracy, possession of cocaine, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and obstructing a police officer's investigation.

Haley, on parole for previous burglary, initially gave a phony name to officers, Lopez said. He was arrested on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy, possession of cocaine, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, possession of stolen property, providing false identifying information and an outstanding warrant.

The adults were booked into Solano County Jail in Fairfield.

The boys were arrested on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy and obstructing and delaying a police officer. The 15-year-old was booked into Juvenile Hall in Fairfield. The 12-year-old was released on a citation into custody of his grandmother, Lopez said.

"They returned to do the same thing," she added. "They just got greedy."
