OTIS, Ore. -- The suspect in the kidnapping and attack of a teen in Lincoln City over the Independence Day weekend will appear in court Monday.
Shawn Griep, 28, was arrested nearly three weeks later, in connection with the knifepoint kidnapping of 18-year-old Chelsea Hopkins, of Forest Grove, at the Tanger Outlet Mall in Lincoln City.
In court Monday, Griep was arraigned on several charges, including kidnapping, robbery, and assault.
Hopkins said he forced her into a car and drove her to a remote location. She said he sliced her arm and punched her several times in the face before she finally managed to escape.
Griep was eventually captured at a home where he was staying in Otis, Oregon. He was found hiding in a closet and a tip alerted police.
"It [news of his arrest] was probably the best news ever that I've heard," Hopkins told KGW Monday. "It was amazing, a great feeling. But more and more, the nightmare is still there."
Griep was also wanted in California for a parole violation and was considered a fugitive.
Hopkins said she was eager to testify against him.
