Desolate outlet mall part of major project

by Larry Lockhart - Tri Valley Central

The Outlets at Casa Grande is about to undergo another metamorphosis.

The former Tanger Outlet Center was sold to G&D Investments LLC in November 2003 and renamed Outlets at Casa Grande in April 2004. It was sold again in February 2006 to All State Associates of Pinal XV LLC. Now it has been purchased by AZ Sourcing LLC and will be affiliated with the Phoenix Mart, a huge sourcing center to be built at Casa Grande’s east edge at Florence Boulevard and Toltec Buttes Road.

The Tanger Group built the center in three parts. The building that housed Liz Claiborne was first to open in 1990, and was open during construction on the other phases. The second phase opened in 1991 and the third phase in 1992. The tower is dedicated to the city of Casa Grande as a beacon to what is to come to the southeast portion of the city, mall officials said.

Tanger purchased the entryway to the mall from the Henness family and it remains the only property along the southern portion of Interstate 10 in Casa Grande to have access to I-10 via Jimmie Kerr Boulevard.

Occupancy has ebbed and flowed since 2000. Existing stores are expected to stay for the foreseeable future.

The first new tenant associated with the sourcing center, Yakool Corp., plans to open in the outlet center in the first quarter of 2012 and will be an anchor tenant. Yakool caters to the hotel supply and furnishings industry. AZ Sourcing officials said other businesses locating at the Outlets also will cater to hotels.
