A high-speed pursuit through three Lake of the Ozarks counties led to
two arrests on Tuesday. Police chased a car at speeds of more than 100
miles per hour on the Osage Beach Parkway in effort to stop two women
suspected of shoplifting from stores at Osage Beach Premium Outlets.
At 2:05 p.m., a caller to the Osage Beach Police Department reported
two women shoplifting from stores at the mall. An officer arrived and
positioned his patrol car behind their vehicle, a 2008 Lexus. The driver
backed the Lexus toward the police car and allegedly attempted to hit
it. The police officer moved the car to avoid a collision, and the two
women sped away, reportedly with no regard for pedestrians and vehicles
in the parking lot.
The suspected shoplifters, Tiara N. Johnson and Katara S. Young,
traveled westbound on Osage Beach Parkway with officers in pursuit. They
made a U-turn in the construction zone at the Grand Glaize Bridge and
headed eastbound on Osage Beach Parkway. They reportedly sped through
the city exceeding speeds of 90 and 100 mph.
Additional officers joined the pursuit as it progressed northbound on
Highway 54 into Miller County. The suspects' Lexus exited on to Highway
52 and entered Eldon. At that point, officers called off the chase
because they believed continuing through Eldon traffic would put drivers
and police in danger. Police lost sight of the vehicle somewhere along
Highway 52 between Eldon and Barnett in Morgan County.
A Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper stopped the Lexus near the
intersection of Highway 52 and Route AA in Barnett. Troopers and Morgan
County deputies reportedly found what they suspect to be items stolen
from the outlet mall hidden in a barn in Barnett.
