The big news coming out of RECon, the global retail real estate convention held last week in Las Vegas, is that Bass Pro Shop will be opening at the Round Rock Premium Outlets.
One prominent retail broker said the deal was still under wraps, but Lauren Brunner, principal for The Retail Strategy, said it’s a done deal.
Simon Property Group Inc. (NYSE: SPG) "has confirmed that Bass Pro is coming into the new phase, although the specific timing is still unclear,” Brunner said.
The Austin Business Journal called the corporate offices at Simon’s headquarters in Indianapolis, but we haven’t heard back as of this posting.
Practically every retail real estate specialist in Austin was at the RECon convention sponsored by the International Council of Shopping Centers, and our Real Estate Roundup column has been a bit lean as a result.
That all should change based on the feedback the ABJ received about the Las Vegas convocation.
“This RECon was one of the better conventions in the last five years,” said Michele Gary with The Weitzman Group. “We remain optimistic about the future and that Austin is on most every retailer and restaurant radar. It’s a hot market.”
Here’s what Associate Alison Barnwell of CBRE Group Inc. had to say: “This year was the most productive ICSC in several years. People were there to make deals, not just talk about them.”
