Theft at Merrimack Premium Outlets construction site.

By JOSEPH G. COTE - The Nashua Telegraph

Merrimack police are investigating the theft of thousands of dollars worth of tools, wire and pipes from a major construction site.

Police were called to the site of the Merrimack Premium Outlets near Exit 10 of the F.E. Everett Turnpike for the reported thefts over the weekend.

Sometime between Saturday evening and Monday morning, someone accessed the huge construction site in an off-road vehicle and made off with tools, copper wire, pipes and fittings valued at $10,000-$15,000, police said.

The mall has been a topic of some controversy in Merrimack. The first phase of the $100 million project, which will include 100 stores and cover almost 400,000 square feet, is expected to be finished by 2012.

After making its way through the town’s zoning and planning boards, work on the site, which started in September, has been stopped several times after neighbors complained of damage to their homes from rock blasting at the site.

Merrimack detectives are still investigating the thefts and ask anyone with information or anyone who saw something in that area over the weekend to call police at 424-3774. Information can also be submitted anonymously through the Merrimack Crimeline at 424-2424 or at www.merrimackcrimeline.org, police said.

Gilroy Premium Outlets gets Visitors Bureau

By Mark Powell - The Gilroy Dispatch

Gilroy will soon be known for much more than its garlic if the visitors bureau has its way.

A move to the tourist-heavy Gilroy Premium Outlets, a quest to locate an independent funding source and the implementation of more than two dozen signs showing visitors to the city's lesser known staples will turn the Garlic Capital into a tourist target instead of a regional gateway, said Executive Director Jane Howard of the Gilroy Visitors Bureau.

Coupled with increased funds from the City of Gilroy and rising tax revenues, the city is primed to take advantage of the momentum surrounding it, Howard said.

"The buzz is out there," she said.

Howard said she would know by the end of the month whether the visitors bureau would in fact be moving to the outlets from its Monterey Road location, but added she was "90 percent" confident she would be able to secure a lease.

The visitors bureau would reopen in Building A, Suite No. 6 several doors down from the Forever 21 store and adjacent to the New Balance athletic store, Howard said.

Tanger Outlet could land at Westgate

A large outlet mall could be coming to Westgate City Center, marking a huge coup for the Glendale retail and restaurant complex.

Westgate’s owner, the Ellman Cos, is working out a deal with Tanger Factory Outlets Inc. to locate a 400,000-square-foot upscale outlet mall nearby, said Ellman Executive Vice President Tim Wright.

“Should the agreement be finalized, this center would sit on approximately 35 acres along Loop 101 near Glendale Avenue. It is imperative to note that this agreement has not been finalized; the two companies are merely in the discussion phase,” Wright said.

The outlet mall would sit on land at the western edge of Westgate, which currently is undeveloped and used for overflow parking for special events. It would accommodate 75 stores. There is not yet a timetable for possible construction and opening.

Westgate sits adjacent to Jobing.com Arena and University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale.

Tanger is scouting the Valley for two outlet mall locations. One will likely land east of Scottsdale, on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. The other probably will be in the West Valley.

Tanger malls include outlet stores for retailers and brands including Abercrombie & Fitch, Adidas, American Eagle, Ann Taylor, Forever 21, Nike, Brooks Brothers, Coach, Calvin Klein, Disney Store, Old Navy, Hollister, Charlotte Russe and Talbots.

Kate stunning in nude Reiss dress

Catherine Middleton is every brand’s dream endorsement right now. The Duchess of Cambridge has already prompted items to sell out at Whistles, Issa, Tod’s and L.K. Bennett, and she’s only just become a member of the royal family! This week the newly-wed couple completed their first official engagement since their return from their honeymoon as they greeted the Obamas at Buckingham Palace.

Kate opted for a nude Reiss dress for the occasion, which showed off her glowing complexion. She accessorised it with an Anya Hindmarch clutch bag, pointed court heels and, of course, her sparkling sapphire engagement ring. It’s great to see Kate continuing to support British brands, and her choice soon forced the Reiss website to crash so it was clearly a popular look! Michelle Obama stayed patriotic in a dress by American designer Barbara Tfank.

You can shop for both Reiss and Anya Hindmarch at Bicester Village Outlets and Kildare Village Outlets.

60 percent of factory outlet shoppers are "cross shoppers"

Due to increased interest recently in the factory outlet segment of the industry, the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and Goldman Sachs (GS) have expanded their consumer tracking of factory outlet shoppers.

The weekly tracking survey suggests that about one-fifth of all consumers shop at an enclosed mall over a given week, while about 8 percent of consumers shop at a factory outlet.
The ICSC-GS study found that about 60 percent of factory outlet shoppers are in fact “cross shoppers” at enclosed malls and that factory outlet shopping patterns are surprisingly steady throughout the holiday season.

“These early indications suggest that factory-outlet sales may exhibit a very different seasonal pattern than mall sales, and factory outlets are not a substitute, but a complement, to enclosed malls,” said Michael P. Niemira, vice president of research and chief economist for ICSC.

British Designer Jeff Banks to visit McArther Glen East Midlands Designer Outlet

Jeff Banks, one of Britain's leading menswear designers, will be handing out style tips and advice this Saturday 28th May 2011 as he visits his store at McArthurGlen East Midlands Designer Outlet.
The centre, which offers savings of up to 60 per cent on leading high street brands such as Jeff Banks, Calvin Klein and Phase Eight, is a must-visit destination for shoppers to get the designer look for less.

Between 12pm and 3pm, the fashion designer will be scouring the centre to find the best dressed man, who will be treated to £200 worth of vouchers to spend in-store at Jeff Banks.

Jeff Banks reveals the trends he will be looking for:
  • "A key colour this spring/summer is going to be grey; men should think about investing in a grey suit with a mohair fabric feel. This would look great for a wedding with either a magenta or aubergine stripe shirt."
  • "Keep your tailored look sharp by wearing a silk tie to contrast with your shirt."
  • "More men are wearing brown shoes with their grey suits, a refreshing new trend, I think, that brings the suit into the summer season.
  • "Follow the Italian trend of going sockless and invest in a pair of smart, slip on shoes to be worn without socks."
Jeff will be meeting aspiring fashion designers from West Nottinghamshire College and Chesterfield College and answering their questions on how to crack the industry. He will also be on hand to assist customers in their suit choice and talk through some of the quality, tailored products available at the store.

Jeff Banks says:
"I really enjoy days like these, I started my career with a shop called Clobber in 1964 so I am really looking forward to serving the customers again."

Kenny Murray, Centre Manager at McArthurGlen's East Midlands Designer Outlet, says:

"With all of our favourite brands on offer, the centre is popular amongst fashion conscious shoppers looking for quality brands at a fraction of the price. The Jeff Banks store opened in April last year and perfectly complements the other leading brands we have."

Facebook users can also be in with a chance of winning £50 worth of Jeff Banks vouchers and a style makeover by the man himself by submitting a photo of their badly-dressed boyfriend or fashion-backward brother to www.facebook.com/eastmidlandsdesigneroutlet

For further information on Jeff Banks' visit please contact McArthurGlen's East Midlands Designer Outlet, on 01773 545011 or visit http://www.eastmidlandsdesigneroutlet.com/

Macy's is coming to Gurnee Mills

By David Roeder Sun-Times Media May 23, 2011 12:42PM

Macy’s Inc. said Monday it will open a department store in the Gurnee Mills outlet mall.

The 140,000-square-foot store will open in the spring of 2013 and will anchor a new full-price wing at the Gurnee property.

Executives said the Macy’s will be built on the south side of Gurnee Mills on the site of an old Circuit City, which will be razed.

The mall’s executives said the addition of Macy’s will give it a new dimension as a full-price shopping destination. “The most frequent request we get is to have true one-stop shopping incorporating the best of retail,” said Gregg Goodman, president of the Mills, part of Simon Property Group Inc., which owns Gurnee Mills.

“We look forward to opening at Gurnee Mills, which has been a powerful destination in the market for many years,” said Ron Klein, Macy’s chief stores officer. “This new location will serve a broad array of customers, who will appreciate our assortment of exclusive and interesting merchandise collections selected for shoppers in this market.”

The one-level Macy’s will employ about 200 people, the company said. The Gurnee location will be the first new Macy’s serving the Chicago market since 2007, when the retailer opened a store in Bolingbrook.

“We are very excited to welcome Macy’s to Gurnee Mills,” said Gurnee Mayor Kristina Kovarik. “As one of the nation’s premier retailers, they will add tremendous value to our community. Our strong partnership with Gurnee Mills continues to provide jobs, a superior shopping experience and additional sales tax revenue that supports public services. The addition of Macy’s, along with other new retailers, will only enhance its great appeal as a shopping destination.”
