JOHOR BARU: Two new Premium Outlets will be set up in Malacca and Sepang soon, said Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen.She said the Johor Premium Outlet (JPO) has far surpassed its expected tourist arrivals and the setting up of similar outlets in Malacca and Sepang would definitely boost tourist spending figures in the country.
"JPO has managed to attract more than one millions visitors since it opened in December, with 80% of them being domestic tourists," she said after attending a briefing session and visiting the outlet in Kulaijaya here Sunday.
She said the outlet in Johor itself would help boost tourist spending in the country.
"In 2011, 30% of tourism expenditure was chanelled to shopping and this is an increase of 3% from the previous year.
"We expect this number to continue to increase and we target expenditure for shopping to be up to 38% by the year 2020," she said.
The Premium Outlet offers high-end branded labels at discounted rates.
