One of the two new outlet malls in Chesterfield is about to get bigger.

St. Louis Premium Outlets, owned by Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group, has filed plans for a 79,000-square-foot expansion of its shopping center, a 350,000-square-foot center with 90 stores. The addition is expected to add upwards of 20 stores to the $100 million shopping center.

Mall officials indicated Phase II of the project was imminent when the center opened Aug. 22.

“We are working on the entitlements for the expansion,” said Les Morris, director of public relations.

Meanwhile, competitor Taubman Prestige Outlets has signed eight new stores, General Manager Colleen O’Neill said. The $150 million center was developed by Taubman Centers Inc. of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.

Simon submitted the plans to the city’s architectural review board last month. The plan is still under review. If approved, it will require review by the city’s planning commission and city council.
