WOODBURY — Skeletal remains found scattered in a woods beside Woodbury Common Premium Outlets will be transferred to an anthropologist for analysis after the Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office decided they were too old for it to make determinations, Woodbury police said Tuesday.
Police Chief Richard Vasquez said an autopsy that day concluded the body had been there longer than a year and required further study to answer even basic questions about the gender, age and height of the deceased. He said the remains will be transferred to New York City’s Office of Chief Medical Examiner to be viewed by an anthropologist.
That office is expected to do a DNA test, which can then be matched with missing persons’ reports to try to identify the body, believed to be that of a female, Vasquez said. The remains were recovered last week after a Woodbury Common employee reported them to police.
